3 OF THE BEST: CLEANSERS

Proper cleansing – preferably twice a day - is perhaps the most basic tenet of good skin, removing excess sebum and impurities while allowing all those fancy unguents (see other posts) to absorb into your dermis properly. Cleanse with caution, though: anything too harsh will work like paint stripper on your skin and anything too mild won’t sort out that shiny forehead. Unless, of course, you opt for one of these three potions:

DermatoCLEAN Refreshing Cleansing Gel by EUCERIN £8.25 for 200ml; eucerin.co.uk

Made with foaming Glucoside surfactants (science speak for cleansing agents), this complex removes everything from your skin that wasn’t there to begin with. Most importantly, it leaves moisture levels in tact so your face doesn’t feel tight and uncomfortable afterwards. Available in a mild cleansing milk formula for dry and / or sensitive skin types too.

Morning Time Cleanser by EVE LOM £38 for 125ml from evelom.com

A considerably less fiddly and time-consuming version of Eve Lom’s  cult product (the one which required ritualistic application with a muslin cloth and all sorts of bonkers facial exercises), this wash-and-go formula provides equally impressive results. Best of all, it does a rather good job of calming razor burn with an aromatic blend of aromatic hops.

Blemish + Age Cleansing Gel by SKINCEUTICALS £29 for 250ml from skinceuticals.co.uk

Acne isn’t just for teens - a mature man’s skin can be just as prone to a pimple-ridden T Zone. This one-of-a-kind formula decongests pores while a potent trio of acids, (including an effective concentration of Salicylic Acid) gently exfoliates away the signs of photoaging. Ideal for older chaps with uneven skin and inflammatory blemishes.
